Runsmart is a Leicester based textile company specialising in embroidery and screen printing services on behalf of blue-chip companies, fashion brands, schools and sports team clothing suppliers across the UK. With various machinery in their vast premises, they required a custom built system to help automate the factory floor production process. The new system has to reduce repetitive data-entry tasks and support the workforce with cutting edge access to their advanced order-line data matrix. We digitised Run Smart’s production systems to help the company adapt production focus and satisfy changing market demands.

Custom designed to run factory workflow

Runsmart have been trading for 30 years from their Midlands-based facility. We were tasked with supporting their workflow management process to a modern standard.

Client's requirements

The objective was to design and develop a workflow management tool to:

Replace traditional paper-based handwritten processes with a responsively designed digital system
Schedule a busy factory and identify availability in production
Process orders from booking to dispatch without unnecessary duplication of data
Digitise complex order-lines and expand the capabilities of company machines
Provide resources, assessment, reports and support materials to be used by staff and trainees

Proposing innovative concepts

In addition, MM&B Studio proposed new concepts and was commissioned to provide:

Proposed platform to allow upload of artwork and payments for print-on-demand services
Custom-designed GUI with icons for garment artwork positions
Interface with DPD couriers to help automate dispatch
in 2018 the system was modified to accommodate a new contract which focused productivity on embroidery
Flutter app to work across devices

Project Summary

Production began in February 2017 and continues to be a major part of MM&B Studio’s operations. The Runsmart team is able to prepare, edit and schedule the print production workflow for dozens of machine operatives. The business has scaled up and increased turnover, regularly meeting and briefing new system updates.
