Crescent Heritage Experience

Engaging online experience

Buxton Crescent Heritage Experience is an educational tourist attraction set in the grounds of Buxton’s iconic Grade 1 listed building. Launching from 2020 after an £80M regeneration project, the project’s trust have been tasked with overseeing the ongoing maintenance and success of the 16th century building and it’s various facilities.

Buxton’s Crescent, designed by John Carr of York and erected between 1779 – 1789, has been extensively renovated to become a thermal spa hotel with a range of leisure and educational facilities to appeal to visitors of the area and the Peak District National Park.

MM&B Studio successfully proposed to create an engaging online experience to help educate, inspire and inform guests about the Crescent’s rich heritage and the role it has played in Buxton’s history by presenting a diverse collection of multimedia, information and programme of events.

Supporting Buxton for 10 years

As the only agency with offices in Buxton to be selected to propose, we demonstrated how we have helped our client’s digital operations at both a local and international level.

We prepared visuals for demonstration, printed boards mounted onto foamex and a 19 page proposal document detailing our approach.

Client's requirements

The objective was to design and develop an engaging online experience to:

  • Celebrate Buxton Crescent’s rich spa heritage, major restoration project and ultimate renaissance
  • Present a year round events programme for the Pump Room and 60-day programme for the Crescent’s assembly room
  • Promote a “Friends of the Crescent”, volunteering and fundraising campaign, providing visibility to the project’s many sponsors
  • Provide access to various forms of media which explore the history, arts and culture of the Crescent

Proposing innovative concepts

In addition, MM&B Studio provided industry experience and was also commissioned to provide:

  • Mobile-first responsive design with clear calls to action relevant to an audience on the move
  • Animated hero banner which can be easily edited by stakeholders
  • Landscape orientated versions of branding to suit mobile display
  • Introduction and networking opportunities to various local groups and service providers
  • One-to-one tutorial sessions, “How To” support documents, assistance with local and organic search ranking

Project Summary

Production began in November 2018 and continued into early 2019, totalling around 130 hours work in the first stage of production. Stage two saw the integration of the Beyonk booking platform and modifications to the site based on the user case studies completed in the first 6 months of the system’s operation.

The Crescent team is able to prepare, update and schedule updates to the website and the events program with multiple user levels created to allow the contributions from various stakeholders and employees. MM&B Studio provide ad hoc digital support to the Trust’s media team, report quarterly analytical engagement data and propose modifications to the system as we support the Buxton Crescent Heritage Experience’s digital operations throughout the seasons.
